The Red Dot Committee has just announced the winners of this year's Red Dot Awards. For the second consecutive year, Nordlux is among the prize winners.

We are proud to announce that Belly Ø38, designed by Bønnelycke mdd, has won a Red Dot Design Award 2018 in the category Product Design.

The Red Dot Design Award is a prestigious award - granted for outstanding design and quality. Only the products, projects and concepts that are distinguished by their extraordinary design are awarded this sought after quality stamp by the international Red Dot jury.

Belly is very characteristic in its design. Bønnelycke mdd was inspired by the traditional Japanese teapot as the form of the Belly pendant was created. The relationship between Nordic and Japanese design is close, and you will find clear references to the cast wood stove or the archetypal bell. It's the craftsmanship that dominates and in a convincing way Belly unites the weight of the form with the ease of the suspension.

"There is something exclusive and almost intimate about things that are obviously handmade. With Belly there is a man at a lathe, who makes the lampshade over a tree shape with his hands. Therefore, Belly does not have a completely round shape. Combined with the molded fitting, the pendant exudes strong craftsmanship, "says the designer behind Belly, Henrik Bønnelycke, from Bønnelycke mdd.

"It's amazing to be recognized for the work we spend all of our energy doing as good as we can. You become extremely happy, when competent and professional judges honor our design and think it is among the best in the world. The great satisfaction is when our design is chosen, bought, brought home, and becomes part of people's decor and everyday life ... because they just fell in love with our design, "says Henrik Bønnelycke.

"The Red Dot award is a very relevant price for all companies that focus on delivering both aesthetic, innovative and functional design. We believe that design should be accessible - we call it "Design For The People" and with that we reach a large and very design-conscious audience. When you buy a Belly lamp, it is not just a product - it is a piece of international quality labeled design. We are honored that our design, once again this year, has been recognized as world-class design objects, "says Peter Terkelsen, CEO of Nordlux.

About Red Dot Design Awards
The Red Dot Award is one of the most recognized international design contests in the world and has been a quality stamp in the design industry since 1955. Each year, Red Dot receives more than 17,000 entries from close to 60 countries, which will subsequently be reviewed and judged by a jury of 40 independent design experts. The price is divided into three categories: Product Design, Design Concept and Communication Design. Red Dot is organized by Design Zentrum North Rhine Westphalia in Essen, Germany. On July 9, 2018, the big Red Dot Gala takes place, where winners get their certificates. After that, the winning products are displayed at the Red Dot Museum in Essen - the largest museum for contemporary design.
